This week, we focused on familiarizing ourselves with the projects of our colleagues. It is crucial to keep your blog up to date and to take the time to read materials that will help you succeed throughout the semester. One thing that I struggle with a lot is the feeling that my work is never good enough. It can be really tough to shake that feeling and to believe in yourself, especially when you are constantly bombarded with messages about the importance of perfection.

A dear colleague of mine has recognized this part of my personality and has gifted me a book that I think could be really helpful for anyone who struggles with these kinds of issues.

The book is called “Love for Imperfect Things: How to Accept Yourself in a World Striving for Perfection” by Haemin Sunim.

It’s all about learning to embrace your flaws and imperfections, and to find joy and meaning in the things that make you unique. It’s a beautiful and uplifting read that I think could be really helpful for anyone who struggles with feelings of inadequacy or self-doubt.

So, if you find yourself feeling like your work is never good enough, or if you just want to learn more about how to accept and love yourself for who you are, I highly recommend giving this book a try. It might just be the perfect thing to help you get through the semester feeling confident and self-assured.

I recently had the opportunity to read this book during a train trip to visit my family. Although it is not a lengthy book, I found its message to be impactful and thought-provoking.

One key takeaway for me was the realization that my self-criticism can often lead to judging others and that I place too much importance on what others think of me rather than focusing on my own self-perception. This book has planted the seed for me to start changing my mindset and focus more on my own self-worth.

One of the standout features of this book is the abundance of inspiring quotes scattered throughout its pages. A few that stand out to me include…

(copied from this webpage):

“Don’t judge people based on how they appear, as they may have difficulties that nobody can see.”
― Haemin Sunim, Love for Imperfect Things: How to Accept Yourself in a World Striving for Perfection

“Even if you have everything you’ve ever wanted,
you won’t be happy if you’re always striving for more or better. Happiness comes when our hearts are peaceful and content, and when we learn to appreciate what we already have.”
― Haemin Sunim, Love for Imperfect Things: How to Accept Yourself in a World Striving for Perfection

I’ve appreciated the extra time to work on my blog (it was needed!). And it has been inspiring reading my fellow student blogs.
